Marci Baker

Recognized internationally for her expertise in quilting, Marci enjoys sharing ideas that simplify the process of quilting. A native of Dallas, Texas, Marci has loved sewing for years, making her first quilt at age 9 and sewing her own clothes in high school and college. She began teaching quilting in 1989 for her local quilting guild and shops. Marci
graduated with a bachelors and master’s degree in math. In 1993 she started Alicia’s Attic with the concepts that combine her love of math with her love of quilting. Quilting became a great way to share her knowledge with others.

As an admirer of traditional quilts, Marci was inspired to author books on Not Your Grandmother’s™ Quilts. This series uses the traditional patterns people associate with their grandmother and simplifies the technique. She has invented several tools to help make quilting easier for all. Her Know Before You Sew™ solution cards take common
problems quilters encounter, and provide easy-to-understand solutions.
Marci spends much of the year traveling, teaching classes for quilting guilds and trade shows.

Some of Marci’s travels include Canada and Brazil. Enthusiasm and inspiration for quilting can be seen throughout her lectures, workshops, and books. She has been featured in Redbook, on Home and Garden TV's "Simply Quilts", Quilters’ News Network, NBC’s “The Jane Pauley Show”, highlighted in "Traditional Quiltworks", and has been published in numerous quilting magazines. Marci has been nominated for The Professional Quilter magazine "Teacher of the Year" award in 2002 and 2005. In 2006 she expanded Alicia’s Attic by purchasing Clearview Triangle from Sara Nephew. They are collaborating on new designs and techniques. These ideas and Marci’s simplifying methods have come together as “The Clearview of Quilting”;
inspiring today’s quilter. Marci and her husband Clint, their sons, Kevin and Marcus, and the family pet snake,

DESCRIPTION:  If you want something new then this is it!  Take a look at log cabin from a whole new angle as designed by Sara Nephew with Marci Baker.  Students will construct log cabin diamonds and triangles using easy step-by-step instructions to create unique and gorgeous designs.  To top it off, the simply amazing designs are amazingly simple, providing success for all levels of quilters.  Just cut up your scraps and paint with strips.  “Bet you can’t make just one!”

DESCRIPTION:  Wow!  You can make this impressive 3-dimensional optical illusion with simple value selections, once you know the trick. Build the blocks using the strip-piecing method, so it’s fast, too!  In fact, it is easy enough for a confident beginner to do.  The inside of the box is different than the outside of the box which allows your imagination to run wild and “opens the box” for so many different fabric possibilities; including floral, bright, country and pastels.  Join our class and see how your blocks stack up!
